1Can I replace a window with a French door or sliding patio door at the back of my house?
We specialise in this service. From start to finish we will ensure the least disruption to your home. Our French doors come in a range of finishes and are muti-locking with added shoot bolts. They are manufactured to the highest standards using toughened safety glass and internal glazing for maximum security. We can arrange to have an existing radiator moved if necessary and a step outside if required. All of this will enhance your home and bring added light and security.
2Porch doors
Whether you choose a sliding patio door or a French door for your porch, we guarantee it will add extra security and heat retention while enhancing the appearance of your house. Both are available with mid-rails to include a letter plate if required. Side panels can be added to span larger openings. All our doors are manufactured to meet weather performance and operational strenght characteristics as specified in British Standard BS6375. Parts 1 and 2.
3What is a bi-folding door?
Designed to fully maximise any opening space, bi-folding doors are available from 2 to 6 panes in a variety of opening sequences to suit your needs. They incorporate an aluminium bottom track for improved operation. For day to day practical use, larger doors can incorporate single or double opening doors.
4What is the locking system on your back door? I’m concerned about security.
Our back doors have ten locking points with a shoot bolt lock top and bottom and all our doors are glazed internally for maximum security. Glass can be clear or obscure usually with a raised panel on the bottom half.
5uPVC or Composite front door- what’s the difference?
Composite doors have an authentic oak wood finish. Its glass has the lowest U value possible of 0.7 to keep it draught proof. It’s hinges are concealed and it’s structure is strong due to the internal 44mm slab. uPVC panel doors are a popular choice for home owners due to their attractive appearance and security features, requiring little maintenance to retain their attractive finish. Both composite and uPVC products are available in a wide range of colours.

1How does double glazing work?
Our low e glass allows heat from the sun to the room and stops it from leaving by reflecting the light back in. The glass is also Optiwhite, a brilliantly clear pane type which improves Solar gain also.
2Is the benefit of triple glazing worth the extra cost?
There is not much in the temperature difference between double-glazed and triple glazed windows in terms of heat retention, a room will be approximately 2 degrees C warmer with triple glazing. Our advanced system of KS glass, made by Pilkington have allowed us to provide the most energy efficient windows on the market. We offer triple glazing as an up-grade on all our windows.
3Do different Window companies use different Glazing options? How will I know which to choose?
We use only the most up to date glazing materials. Our representatives always bring along a sample window so you can see for example, the Thermal Plastic Spacer which is a revolutionary new material replacing the traditional metal spacer bar within the glass unit. This greatly improves the insulating value of the unit and reduces condensation and helps cut fuel bills.
4What is the window energy rating system?
Windows and doors are rated from ‘A’ which is the highest, most energy efficient grade, to ‘G’ the least energy efficient grade. Our ‘A’ graded window provides solar gain heat and total heat retention.
5What is U-value?
U-value is how the industry measures the energy efficiency of PVC windows. The lower the U- value, the lower the amount of heat loss. The U-value of our glass is 0.8 U value W/m2.k. With the high cost of heating your homes, our aim is to save you money with our award winning double-glazed windows.
6Why does the type of glazing in my widow matter?
U- value takes into account the airflow around your window and the emissivity of the glass. Emissivity is the ability of a product to absorb energy and radiate that energy through itself and out of a room. A single glazed window will have high emissivity and lose 84% of heat out into the cold air. The lower the u- value of a window and the lower the emissivity of your glass the lower the rate of heat loss. Our windows have a Low E glass, coated with a metallic film on the inside of the inner pane which reflects heat back into a room.
7How else does your glass prevent heat loss?
Unlike many window companies, windows do not have rubber seals which can shrink and decay. Integrated into our windows is a Q-lon gasket which prevents air leakage (L value) and life long air tightness. When choosing O Briens windows you can also rest assure that our energy efficient double -glazed units contain Argon gas to prevent heat loss as it conducts 33% lest heat than air.
8What kinds of obscure glass do you offer?
We offer a variety of obscure glass types for your consideration. Ranging from high intensity obscurity for bathrooms to a delicate obscurity for second floor windows. Our Flemish obscure glass is hugely popular and comes highly recommended by us as a mid range obscure glass.
9Can I interchange glass options on your door ranges?
This depends on which door you choose but for the most part our glazing options are interchangeable. For more information please contact us to order your brochure or to talk to a sales rep.
10What is Toughened glass?
Our toughened Pilkington K glass is up to five times stronger than ordinary glass of the same thickness. it meets the world- wide safety standards for glass subjected to accidental human impact at the highest level of severity. It is mainly used in French doors, patio doors and large windows such as front door side-screens.
11Can an intruder remove the glass in my new double-glazed windows to gain entry?
Our windows are internally glazed for maximum security which means the glass cannot be removed from the outside.

1We haven’t seen the windows we want in anyone’s brochure, does that mean we can’t have them?
We provide a custom built service giving you the windows and doors you really want.
2What are uPVC windows?
The ‘u’ in uPVC means unplasticised, which in turn means that the material used has not been softened by chemicals known as plasticisers making it ideal for the production of windows.

* uPVC does not rot
* uPVC is weather resistant and maintenance free
* uPVC is tough on impact
3What are the benefits of changing to uPVC windows?
uPVC windows provide great insulation, surpassing woods and aluminium in retaining heat. They are incredibly tough making them beneficial security wise. Our ‘A’ rated windows are fully reinforced and internally glazed making it impossible for an intruder to take the glass out to gain entry to your home.
4I want to change the design and colour of my windows, is this possible?
We offer you a free consultation to discuss the design and colour that will best suit your budget. Our Irish made windows come in a huge range of design and colour options alongside our woodgrain finishes in light-oak and mahogany finishes, complemented with our range of matching handle colours. See our brochure for a look at the most popular and in demand styles.
5How secure are your uPVC windows?
You can trust that every component we use to build our products is very carefully selected. Only the highest graded security components are used in the manufacturing process. Our windows have six locking points and are internally glazed for optimum security.
6Will I save money on my heating bill with your windows?
Choosing our windows can reduce your heating bill by up to 20% – perhaps worth up to €386.00 a year!
7What about condensation?
Whenever we cook, bathe or even breathe, we increase the water vapour in our home. When saturated air contacts a cold surface, condensation occurs. This can compound respiratory problems such as asthma. Our windows are typically 3-4 degrees warmer than those with metal spacer bars, reducing condensation by up to 80%.
